Hello, I'm doing a major assignment on Borneo and the effect of deforestation on the traditional culture and way of life of the native people.

I was wondering if perhaps you might have any photographs you could show me of your trip? In particular anything pertaining to the traditional culture you described so vividly.

Regards, Sam Thompson

Seb, I was in Borneo in 1964/5 on active service during the (what was called at the time) a Confrontation with Indonesian attempted take over of Malay Borneo.
Two Loctions on duty met Dyak & Iban people, visited long houses with shrunken skulls hanging etc whilst on patrol.
Question: do you have knowledge/info on both or point me in the right direction.
Regards Mike Dutton

About two hours from Kapit, there is a longhouse called Punan Bah. Did you went there during your trip. Yeah you're right many of us (the natives or aborigines) live in a longhouse.

Orang Ulu - is a catch all term referring to Punan, Sekapan, Kejaman, Kayan, Kenyah, Bukitan etc. It's popularised by Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) a Kayan and Kenyah association in 1969.

Hey Seb,

again a fantastic description. Makes me want to grab a machete and wander into the nearest tropical jungle and go in search of the local folks. Unfortunately Germany has a shortage of tropical jungles - as far as I know there is not a single one in the whole country.
