Over at amarok.kde.org we decided to release amaroK 2.0. Of course, we didn’t really, published instead was an ancient release, 0.7.0, from way back in 2003. Apparently this version had an amaroK music store, DJ mixing capabilities and a windows installer.
Surprisingly, lots of people were conned – nearly 2000 downloads for the linux source, and over 3000 for the windows binary. Additionally, plenty of forum posts and countless confused and intrigued users on irc.
All in all, a successful day!

That was funy:)
!) AmaroK used to run on Windows?
2) Windows users love amaroK. Don’t give it to them. Sooner or later, they will have to switch over to KDE/Unix to use it
3) I wonder how many Windows users will stick with the ancient amaroK as their main player?
I was one of the users that were conned. Thank you for the joke =) I was worried all that day wondering why amarok didnt want to compile…
real funny – I figured it was april fools joke but still had to try it out.
Best april joke I’ve ever seen
amaroK probably confused all the Windows users and made them think that amaroK (as it currently is in 1.3/1.4beta) is just like the old 0.7 build.
haha, nah – it just showed a popup saying ‘April fools!’
